Lake Champlain has been drawing anglers to the North Country for generations. Some come for a weekend, some stay for the season, and others travel here every year for one of the area's many fishing tournaments. Whatever brings them here, they all know the same thing: Lake Champlain offers some of the best freshwater fishing in the Northeast.

Fishing Lake Champlain

The lake is known nationwide for both smallmouth and largemouth bass, and it's not uncommon to hear stories of anglers landing fish weighing 4, 5, or even 6 pounds.

But bass aren't the only reason fishermen keep coming back.

Lake Champlain is also home to northern pike, walleye, yellow perch, chain pickerel, lake trout, landlocked Atlantic salmon, brown trout, and rainbow trout. Whether you enjoy casting along the shoreline, fishing weedy bays, or trolling deeper waters, there are plenty of opportunities to find your next big catch.

The fishing doesn't stop at the lake, either. The Plattsburgh area is surrounded by rivers, ponds, and smaller lakes that offer excellent fishing throughout the season. Many visitors come to fish Lake Champlain and end up discovering a few local favorites along the way.

Tournament Season in Plattsburgh

Fishing is a big part of life in the North Country, and tournament season is proof of that.

Every year, Plattsburgh welcomes anglers from across the country for events like the Major League Fishing (MLF) Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit, Mercury B.A.S.S. Nation Qualifier, Reynolds Boats Northern Bass Tournament, Bassmaster Elite, and more!

During tournament weekends, boat launches are busy before daylight, local restaurants fill up with anglers sharing stories from the day, and the entire community gets involved. It's one of the many reasons Plattsburgh has earned a reputation as a premier fishing destination.

Staying Close to the Water

For many anglers, one day on Lake Champlain just isn't enough. That's why Plattsburgh RV Park welcomes seasonal fishermen, tournament participants, and families looking to spend more time on the water.

Located just minutes from Lake Champlain and several public boat launches, the campground makes it easy to get out early and stay out late. It's also a great place to relax after a long day of fishing, swap stories with fellow anglers, and enjoy everything the North Country has to offer.

Many of our guests return year after year during fishing season, and it's easy to see why. Great fishing, beautiful scenery, and a convenient location make Plattsburgh RV Park a natural choice for anglers visiting the area.

Plan Your Next Fishing Trip

Whether you're chasing trophy bass, hoping to hook a salmon, or simply looking for a relaxing day on the water, Lake Champlain has something for everyone.

If a fishing trip to the North Country is in your plans, we'd love to welcome you to Plattsburgh RV Park and help make your stay a memorable one!
